In early 16th century Hungary man-at-arms Gyorgy Dozsra led a peasants’ revolt against the armies of the king. In the beginning it look like the revolt was going to succeed but the king’s armies prevailed and crushed the revolt, capturing Gyorgy and his younger brother Gergely.
Sentenced to death, the king and his ministers came up with an original method of execution for Gyorgy. As Gyorgy aspired to be king of Hungary, they thought his manner of death should be a reflection of his ambition. Warning: gruesome image. If you have a weak heart/stomach I advise you not to look.
Gyorgy was stripped naked and made to sit on a red hot iron chair as that was his “throne.” Then a red hot iron crown was placed upon his head. Then a red hot iron scepter was placed in his hand. And right in front of his eyes Gyorgy’s younger brother was executed by being sliced in three. And they had another surprise in store for Gyorgy. Up until his time for execution, nine of his followers were locked in a dungeon and starved. Then they were released from the dungeon, brought to Gyorgy as he slowly roasted to death. Whereupon Gyorgy’s executioners took smoking hot pincers and ripped his flesh from his body and forced these nine men to bite into these wounds and were also forced to drink the blood that flowed from these gaping lacerations that went straight to the bone. Anyone who refused was killed on the spot. The ones that ate his flesh and drank his blood were released. As you can see in the lower right hand corner, someone thought this was a festive occasion as he is playing his bagpipes. Bagpipes and a victim horribly screaming as he dies a slow, painful death. What a combination.
