 Here we see 6 Russian men lined up and executing 3 fellow comrades. In WW1, you could be executed for Mutiny, Desertion, sleeping while on Duty, disobeying orders, and Shell Shock which is PTSD. This was linked to cowardice which was considered a crime (shell shock) back in those days from both sids of the war.

In order to be part of a firing squad, you were picked randomly, ordered to kill a comrade. If you refused you would be killed. In some instances there were cases when a friend shot a friend. Imagine the pain, witnessing a fellow friend last breath. There were cases when boys had to shoot a friend and ended up in tears.

Overall, if the soldier still survived by the bullets of the firing squad. An officer would take out a pistol and shoot the soldier in the head at close range.

Some boys were also shot for the innocent reasons, such as running away and avoiding to go over the top because they were extremely frightened. This was linked to shell shock.

Most of these soldiers killed were killed innocently. Sometimes they would be found with their family. Then declared guilty in court, not only by the judges but the higher ranked officers and generals who didn't care about anything even if they were underage. And then the order came to kill...
